The Air Blows Cold

The cold air blows in like an unwelcome guest,

Its’ howling noise, I cannot rest.

It brings company, for it is not alone,

It won’t be long….I’m going home.

It’s been a long summer,

It’s been a hard fight,

My vision is blurred,

The thief has stolen my sight.

My breath is short,

Sometimes I choke,

Too weak to hold a pen,

Or write a short note.

Some days I can’t eat, yet my stomach is sick.

This disease mocks me,

And my body it tricks.

For a sudden burst of energy

Just doesn’t last,

I miss the ducks; that waddle through the grass.

The simplest joys, no longer mine,

Oh how I wish, I could have more time.

But not in this vessel,

That’s broken and weak,

That won’t let me rest or even speak.

That binds me to a bed,

Where death sits and waits,

My story being written,

The end is my fate.

Oh precious child, so grown yet so small,

Place me by the window,

One last view of it all!

The lake where we canoed, the tree where we sat

Reading books and afternoon naps.

My first kiss from your dad,

The swing and the slide,

Memories of fall leaves,

And hay filled rides.

Snow covered ground, so perfect and bright,

As my body gets weaker,

I see a bright light.

Please move me now to the bed,

Listen to my words,

Here what I’ve said.

Live your life with passion,

Love hard and well,

Make time for your children,

So they have stories to tell.

Count the stars at night while you lay in the grass

And hold on to each moment

Because quickly, they pass.

Smell the flowers each day, take long walks,

Thank special people for hugs and small talks.

The air blows cold, I now have to leave,

Do not cry for me, don’t you grieve.

This body is broken and I have lived long,

Death comes to get me, but my spirit lives on.

The spirit lives on forever. And Jesus waits to comfort and show us His eternal joy. Thanks for this tribute dallaswriter.

...such a bold profound piece of writing - and the epi-man is not writing this comment fast now - lol - he's just sitting here stunned - but satisfied - by your words of poetic economy that just say so much with a few well chosen words ......and that is 'artful' indeed!!!

....well I am there with you ... right now ... in spirit - and yes I just finished my 'pot' of wake-up coffee (which is usually 3 or 4 cups) after my night shift debacle - and when you have 4 cups of coffee you are ready to take on the world - lol - or at least take a walk along the beach where I live on the northern shores of Lake Erie with my two cats ......

Epi, that's great! No wonder you are such a great writer! You have the wind that speaks to you, the waters that encourage you, the sunsets (since you work night shift)that promises tomorrow and a beach to renew your soul! I am jealous, but then again, we have the mountains:) the world and your two cats are very blessed:)!!!
